Q: Does Installing A Total Heat Recovery Fresh Air System Really Save Energy?

A: Yes. The total heat recovery unit pre-conditions the incoming fresh air to a temperature close to the indoor temperature, which significantly reduces the air conditioning load. According to the case study in the manual for a 200 m² room in Beijing: when the outdoor temperature is 33°C in summer, the supply air is only about 28°C (compared to 7°C from ordinary ventilation, which would require further cooling). Approximately 1,112 kWh is saved in winter and about 1,427 kWh in summer, giving a comprehensive annual energy saving of approximately 42.3% (calculated at ¥0.48/kWh). Because the load on the air conditioning equipment is reduced, the equipment cost may also be lowered accordingly.
