Wheel Heat Exchanger

Roter's production line for heat-recovery rotor cores, its molecular-sieve desiccant, and its special aluminum-foil process are directly sourced from the United States. Roter carefully manufactures heat-recovery rotor cores in various specifications, enabling heat-energy recovery — and thus energy savings — when supplementing fresh air and discharging exhaust air in ventilation and air-conditioning systems. By using the ROTER-HRW heat exchanger for exhaust-air energy recovery, the efficiency of the air-conditioning system can be improved and the fresh-air supply volume increased without additional energy consumption. Throughout the year-round ventilation process, the ROTER-HRW heat exchanger improves indoor air quality without increasing the air-conditioning system's treated airflow, while keeping energy consumption to a minimum.

Working Principle

The rotor of the wheel total heat exchanger rotates continuously at 10 rpm. The continuously rotating rotor serves as a heat-storage or cold-storage core. The fresh air passes through one half of the wheel  heat exchanger, while the exhaust air simultaneously passes counter-currently through the other half of the rotor. In this way the fresh air and exhaust air alternately pass through the rotor in opposite directions, while the exhaust air releases its heat into the heat- or cold-storage core.
In the total-heat type rotor, moisture transfer is also ensured. The moisture separated from the air stream enters the moisture-absorbing coating of the heat-storage core, and is released when the rotor turns to the other air stream. During moisture transfer, heat transfer or transmission accompanies it.
A total heat exchanger is a device that recovers energy by exchanging sensible and latent heat between indoor exhaust air and outdoor incoming fresh air, thereby achieving energy savings while maintaining good ventilation. In summer it can pre-cool and dehumidify the fresh air; in winter it can pre-heat and humidify the fresh air. Its recovery efficiency can reach over 75%, thus reducing the cooling/heating load and power consumption of air-conditioning or boiler operation.

Product Features

1. Selective absorption:
Roter's heat-recovery rotor cores use a specially specified dedicated combined low-micropore-size molecular-sieve desiccant, "ROTER 34A". ROTER 34A permits only water molecules to pass through and rejects all other contaminants, so that contaminants remain only in the exhaust air.
2. High structural strength:
As a result of the latest modern coiling technology, the ROTER 34A rotor features particularly high structural strength (aluminum foil thickness available in three specifications: 0.04 mm / 0.05 mm / 0.06 mm).
3. Easy retrofit:
Both horizontal and vertical installation are possible, making retrofit convenient.
4. Wide application scope:
• Sensible-heat and total-heat rotor cores are available.
• Honeycomb pore height is available in two models: 2.0 / 2.5 mm. Rotor thickness is available in two specifications: 200 / 270 mm.
• The rotor support frame offers three structural choices: galvanized sheet, spray-coated cold-rolled sheet, and galvalume sheet.
• Standard and non-standard parts are both available.
• Rotor diameter can be selected from φ500 mm to φ5000 mm.
5. New manufacturing design:
According to customized user requirements, it can be made as an integral unit or a split type.
6. Special drive belt:
The drive belt is an original imported part from Japan, featuring a special belt tensioning device and a mechanical belt lock.
7. High diffusion rate:
ROTER 34A not only has high selectivity, but also combines high diffusivity with selectivity.
8. Highly polished surface:
The rotor surface is polished and sheared by a special processing technique, giving a smooth touch. Within a 2000 mm vertical surface, the horizontal deviation is less than 2 mm; this structure makes the gap between all cross-sections and the mechanical sealing brush uniform and equal, minimizing the air-leakage rate.
9. High-performance heat-recovery rate:
At a rotor face velocity of 3.5 m/s with an air resistance of 170 Pa, the rated heat-recovery efficiency reaches as high as 79%.
10. Built-in purge sector eliminates cross-contamination:
The purge-sector device prevents bacteria, dust, and contaminants from transferring from the exhaust-air side to the fresh-air side; together with the mechanical sealing brush, it minimizes cross-contamination.
11. Contact-type mechanical sealing brush device:
The flexible sealing brush provides sealing, minimizing heat loss. It reduces friction and extends the service life of the drive motor.
12. Variable-frequency control (optional for user):
MicromMax is an advanced vector-modulated inverter that enables control of the necessary additional functions of the wheel heat exchanger, such as rotational speed adjustment, start-up, and monitoring.
